The China Syndrome

1979, Jane Fonda plays an 'eye candy reporter' and Michael Douglous a stubborn cameraman. Both of them go to a nuclear power station to cover a small story. They reach the control room of the plant where photography is prohibited, some very peculiar things happen there, apparently there is some trouble which makes all the employees there desperately terrified. Michal Douglous records it all in his camera. What follows next is the revelation that the plant at that point of time came close to 'the china syndrome' - a term used for nuclear melt down in which the molten fuel will penetrate the floor of the plant, the earth surface and reach CHINA - the other side of the earth.
Its one hell of a thriller, specially the climax. The climax, I bet will make your heart go faster then its ever been and then no matter what you do tears will flood your eyes.

This movie raises the question of nuclear safety and also whether something which needs so much of responsibility should be given to private companies who look towards it as a money making machine.

This is one of the best movies from Michael Douglous if not better then at par with one flew over the cuckoo,s nest..that is how good a movie it is...and in present circumstances it becomes even more relevant WATCH IT!!!!!

The Producers

A bankrupt producer, whose only source of income is the old ladies whom he keeps happy.

An honest accountant who carries with him the towel which was wrapped around him at the time of his birth.

Both of them meet and accidentally the accountant concludes that if a producer can guarantee a flop show he will make more money then the other way around.

The search begins to find the worst play, the worst actors and the worst director EVER!!! All these worst things make up one of the best comedy movies ever, its full of amazing one liners and also the element of dark comedy which makes it a class apart act.

I searched for the best 'suspense' movies and this movie released in 1931 came up in the list, I downloaded it because of the name -M- just a single alphabet nothing else. It turned out to be a German movie thankfully the subtitles came along with the download. 

The movie begins with the search of a unknown serial killer who kills  children and that is where the resemblance with other suspense films disappear!!!!!

The murderers identity is revealed very shortly and the viewer wonders "what will they show in the next one and half hours ?" 

The underworld is fed up of this killer as because of him the police has been raiding them and making their life very difficult. In order to survive thy must find this killer as they think Police cannot do the job. 

On the other hand the police also is in a meeting trying to find the killer by changing their strategy. Two different investigations start simultaneously, one by the police and the other by the thugs, it becomes like a race, while watching it you can feel the tension about the winner of the race. Brilliant movie absolutely different from the so called suspense movies. The final court room scene is ULTIMATE!!

The Treasure of The Sierra Madre

On the face of it this appears to be a adventure movie about gold diggers, but adventure is just the tip of the  iceberg. 

The movie projects different shades of human personality in some very interesting scenarios. 

Two men, both honest are job less. one of them has no issues in asking for alms to survive but has no issues in making bets on lottery as well, both of them get a job and are conned by the contractor. They beat the hell out of him and take only what was due!!! It was a small amount so the greed does not creep in. 

They find an old man who has some knowledge about gold digging but also says that gold can make men mad!

They make an alliance and get out to dig the gold, what unfolds further is an epic adventure and a fabulous tale which depicts how money leads to insecurity and insecurity to greed and other hidden characteristics of human nature.

Look out for the bandits and their head person :)

It Happened One Night

1934, when Hitler was putting his mechanism in place to spread hatred around the globe, this movie was making the audience chuckle in the theaters. A romantic comedy where the protagonists do not utter a word about romance till the last ten minutes of the movie!!! This was the first film to win the top 5 Oscar awards and when you see the film you know why. In fact half of India has seen this movie in its Hindi version - DIL HAI KE MAANTA NAHI, its a word by word translation of the IHON, if you liked Aamir Khan in dil hai ke maanta nahi, just watch the original and see what acting is all about. I am not a big fan of romantic movies but this one deserves the top honors. Its an out and out entertainer, the actors appear to be made for the characters and having seen the colored Bollywood version you will realize how expressive black and white can be.

Download it and watch it and then watch it again and again.

12 Angry Men

Its hard to believe that a movie can be made on GROUP DISCUSSIONS that to way back in early 1950's but this movie does exactly that and does it in style. 12 men are locked in a room to decide the fate of a young boy who is charged with the murder of his own father. For the next two hours all these men do is TALK!!! Yes, the protagonist (Henry Fonda) is the only one out of the 12 who thinks the life of the boy needs a serious discussion and then the movie unfolds when slowly, one by one the 12 men reach a consensus. The characters in the movie have no names, its only in the last frame when two charecters ask each other their names, and thats the beauty of the movie the story line is so gripping that the person watching it gives a damn about the names. The movie does not show any murder scenes, any actual witnesses or any hearing but the the discussion between the 12 men has been crafted in such a way that the viewer is forced to use his imagination which makes him one of the 12 men. Its an old black & white movie but a must watch.
